Winter season: week three – the lowdown
We are now in week 4 of our winter season, over 200 matches have already taken place, but there’s still heaps more to go. League tables are starting to take shape as more results come in. Check out your current position online now.
Our player of the week award goes to Vicente Maestro from our Sydney Eastern Suburbs Tennis League.
Vicente played two games last week, and one the week before, winning all 3 and moving himself to the top of division 2 in the Eastern Suburbs.
Vicente started off beating Sam NG in two sets, he then followed this up with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Matt Chadwick in a top of the table clash. Finally Vicente played an absolutely crazy match with Thomas Roudier, losing the first set 1-6, but coming back to win the next 6-0! He went on to win the decider to take the match 6-3.
“Strange match with some long winning streaks on both sides. Thomas got me on the ropes after a clear 6-1 in the first set, but I was lucky enough to come back in the second set, and again in the third after trailing 0-3. Another great game, great player and great guy in the league.“
“Great game, full of alternatives and nice rallies. It could have gone either way but I was luckier than Matt in the key points of the game. Thanks Matt for the most enjoyable tennis game!!“
Well played Vicente!
Our match of the week goes to Saurav and James in our Sydney Inner West Tennis League. Saurav winning his first ever three set match in a hard fought battle. Saurav took the win 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. With the win he moved himself up to second and into the grand final placings. Great game both!
“My first 3 set win ever! It was a titanic 2 hour tussle. It was closer than the score suggests, we had several multi deuce games, I think one game had 10 of them. Really pleased to have edged this one!!!“ Saurav Chatterjee
And finally, our favourite match notes from the past couple of weeks 🙂
“Top match with Sascha! We will definitely have to organise a rematch soon 🙂” Tim Wheeler, Sydney North Shore
“Jamie was an amazing player to play against with an obvious love for tennis. He had an extremely consistent serve even in the wind that was hard to counter against and I would definitely look forward to playing Jamie again 🙂” Sasha Milentijevic-Vague, Melbourne Inner City
“Good warm up to start the season. Luke was very friendly, just got back into tennis after years of non playing and with some practice I can see a lot of potential, his forehand can be really fast paced! Thanks Luke.” Mimi Ghisellini, Melbourne East
