Summer season: week nine – the lowdown
The regular season is now complete and we’re all set for a week of grand finals!
Our match of the week this week goes to 2 players who saved their best for the last week of the season. John Deng (pictured) taking on Nathan Boss in division 2 of our Sydney Central Tennis League.
After a titanic 3 set battle Nathan managed to come out on top. John took the first set 6-4, but Nathan bounced back in the second to take it 5-7, forcing the game to a third set champions tie-break, with Nathan taking it out 10-12. Great game both!
“Nathan came charging out the gate at the beginning of the match, returning slice for slice, aggressively rushing the net, and disallowing me to come to the net with near perfect lobs, taking the first set. Well timed service aces allowed me to eventually pull off the second set.
With only 20 minutes left, we decided to do a super tiebreaker. I took a commanding lead at 8-4, but maybe it was that mindset where I relaxed that allowed him to claw back and end up winning it 12-10.
Wish I could have 2 of those points back, but what a great game. I look forward to playing Nathan again and returning the favor.” John
Grand final matches
Good luck to everyone who has qualified to play in a grand final. May the best player win and don’t forget to enjoy it 🙂
Just because the regular summer season is all wrapped up, this doesn’t mean you can’t get on the court. Feel free to contact other players from your player directory to organise friendly matches in the off-season. Regular competition is a great way of improving your game and getting ready for the new season.
Promotion and relegation Q&A
Q) Will I move up or down a division next season?
A) If you have found yourself winning most of your matches then it’s likely you’ll find yourself in a higher division next season. Everyone who wins their division will definitely be promoted and quite often we’ll also promote the runner up.
On the flip side, if you have struggled in your current division, we will look to move you down a division so you are playing against others of a closer ability next season.
Our aim is always to get you the closest matches possible.
