The lowdown

We are now into week 8 of the autumn season. There’s just over a week and a half to go of the regular season before our grand finals week!

You can see all the results and updated league tables from the first 7 weeks of the season online now.

Regular season cut off dates & grand finals

The grand finals take place in week 10 of the season. To qualify you must finish first or second in your division, the winner of the grand final is crowned the Oz Tennis Leagues champion!

All matches must be completed and submitted by midnight on Sunday 25 June to count towards qualification. Players will be notified on the Monday of week 10 if they have qualified for the grand final.

So, don’t delay, get on the court now and see if you can earn enough points to finish in the top two!

Match of the weekArash

So many 3 set matches taking place over the past couple of weeks made this a tricky choice. In the end we’ve gone with Arash Ashrafian’s three set victory over Ian Chan in division 2 of our Canberra Tennis League.

Arash took the first set 7-6, but Ian fought back to take the next 3-6, Arash hit form in the final set, taking the decider 6-4. Great victory for Arash, keeping him in with a shout of making the grand final.

“Arash was a great opponent to play against. It was a remarkably even match-up, and it could honestly have gone either way. I started cramping halfway through the third set (in our second hour of playing) and Arash was a great sport in helping me stretch my calf out. He took away a well-deserved win. Thoroughly enjoyed our match-up and looking forward to playing him again in the future. Ian Chan, Canberra Tennis League

Player of the weekRyan Skorzewski

Our player of the week award goes to Ryan Skorzewski!

Ryan played three matches over the past two weeks, winning them all and catapulting himself to the top of division 2 of our Perth North Tennis League.

Ryan hasn’t had everything his own way, being taken to three sets twice. First up Ryan beat Anthony Verissimo 3-6, 7-5, 7-5, then defeating Anthony Lamuel 6-2, 6-1. Finally Ryan played Yas Ohara, taking a gruelling 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 win.

“Some marathon rallies that really tested each other mentally and physically, but a very enjoyable match that went over 2hrs!” Yas

“Ryan is such a nice bloke… very good game, I really enjoyed it.. Hope to have my revenge next season” Anthony Lamuel

Great tennis Ryan!

Bonus points

Don’t forget, complete all your matches and you gain 2 extra bonus points.

Completing all your matches

Do not despair if you feel like you are not going to complete all of your matches. The league structure is primarily set-up to encourage friendly, regular tennis. We’re not the 5th grand slam!

Therefore, just try and complete as many matches as you can, meet some new tennis partners and have some fun whilst playing.

And finally..

A few more great match notes from the past week. We love.

“This is exactly why I joined Oz Tennis leagues – to be tested and help drive me to get better by playing tough opponents. Jeremy was just that! From the warm up I knew we were in for a tight match and we had a really close battle playing the 2 sets over 80 mins. Look forward to another game against Jeremy soon!” Phil Smeets, Perth South Tennis League

“Great game in lovely Autumn sunshine! Lovely to meet Harikat. Looking forward to playing again soon. Abigail Goucher, Melbourne Inner City Tennis League

“For someone that doesn’t have tennis coaching after a very long gap with no tennis at all, I can tell Josh can defend himself pretty well. Some of his drop shots and short balls when least expected can be a killer! Glad that I kept up all the way to 3 sets with a terrible cold and too many unforced errors. It was fun to play Josh!” Mimi Ghisellini, Melbourne East Tennis League

Enjoy week 8 & 9 of the autumn season. See you on the court!
